BOARD MEMBER INFORMATION

Purpose of Board:

  • The purpose of the Board of Directors (BOD) is to set policy and to govern UH Cougars Athletic Alliance (UHCAA) planning, programs, resource development and financial matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in creating the organization’s identity. Board members need to develop or support the organization’s mission, make decision about program directions, and take part in long-range planning.
  • · Review financial status and financial reports of organization and make sure that there is a process in place to determine that funds expended by UHCAA are for the stated purpose.
  • · Personally participate in the fundraising efforts of the organization, making a financial contribution, soliciting contributions and identifying potential donors for UHCAA.
  • · Participate in BOD meetings and retreat.
  • · Participate in UHCAA sponsored events.
  • · Active participation on one committee is expected.
BOARD MEMBER INFORMATION

Meetings:

  • Board of Directors meet September through August on the fourth Wednesday of the month, 6:30 p.m., at the UH Athletics / Alumni Center in the Life Member room. Meetings typically last 90 minutes.
  • Meeting materials will be sent out in advance of the meeting so that members can review the agenda and items for discussion prior to the meeting.
  • Minutes of meetings will be taken and provided to members for review prior to the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
BOARD MEMBER INFORMATION

Leadership and Membership:

  • The Board of Directors is made up of Executive Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and Historian) and other members committed to the mission and vision of the organization.
  • All Board of Directors positions hold a term of one (1) year. The term of office for Board of Directors is September 1st through August 31st of each year.
  • The President may not serve more than (2) consecutive terms of office. He or she can be re-elected as President one (1) year after his or her second term is completed.
  • Board members may opt to come on to the board for an initial one-year term to determine whether the relationship is a “good fit” and make a decision at the end of the first year as to whether to complete additional terms.
  • Officers of the Board of Directors will be nominated by the Nominating Committee and presented for a vote to the Board of Directors. The length of the term of office is one year as stated above.
  • Responsible for identifying and nominating candidates to the Board Nomination Committee for vacant board positions. Accept special assignments designated by the President.
BOARD MEMBER INFORMATION

Board Members

  • A Board Member is an alumni, former student-athlete, or friend of UHCAA who has agreed to support and uphold the mission of the University of Houston Cougars Athletic Alliance (UHCAA) and fulfill the Board Member Commitment signed during the Annual Meeting.
  • • Respect and uphold UHCAA Bylaws, values and support its organizational goals;
  • • Participate in fundraising and resource development activities which includes:
  • 1. Make or solicit a minimum financial gift of $1,000 to the organization during the fiscal year (September 1-August 31).
  • 2. Partner with members of the Board of Directors to solicit gifts from both current and prospective donors.
  • • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and annual meeting
  • • Serve and work on at least one board committee per year. I understand that this will require meeting attendance and active participation.
  • • Attend UHCAA sponsored events (Step-Up-to-the-Plate, Holiday Social and Toy Drive, annual Golf Challenge, etc.).
  • • Recruit potential Board Members, Advisory Council members and committee members.
  • • Promote UHCAA and its mission to other UH alumni, friends, and business acquaintances.

Advisory Board Members

  • An Advisory Board Member is an alumni, former student-athlete, or friend of UHCAA who will
  • 1. Contribute financially to UHCAA
  • 2. Make connections or provide influential donors and sponsors
  • 3. Allow their name and influence to be associated with UHCAA
  • 4. Offer beneficial advice or suggestions based on their skills, profession
  • Advisory Board Members are not required to attend monthly meetings or events and do not have voting privileges. This is a nominated position.
